The Mission
The goal of the Niteroi Mission Team is to establish a New Testament church in the city of Niteroi, Brazil. We pray that that God will begin raising up Brazilian leaders who will eventually take charge of this church as elders, deacons and ministers. We hope this church will serve as a 'flagship' church, eventually taking on new church plants in the surrounding area.
The church will be established through a partnership among four vital components: 1) stateside families and supporting congregations, 2) the Niteroi Team, 3) the national church (new Brazilian brothers and sisters) and 4) Continent of Great Cities. After completing the initial recruiting process under the supervision of Continent of Great Cities, team members will additionally be trained and prepared for work in Niteroi in several ways.
In January of 2008, nine months prior to departing, Continent will begin facilitating our training by focusing on academic preparation, doctrinal harmony, local church work experience, personal financial support, families’ workshop, supporting church workshop, attainment of visas and other legal documentation and a survey trip. This time in training is designed to lay a foundation for our team that will support strong interpersonal relationships, open communication, define our church planting strategy and introduce us to Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language.
After this training period with Continent, each team member will spend approximately 3 months with their supporting congregation building stronger relationships as they prepare for our departure in the Fall of 2008. After arriving on the field, the team will continue language studies and begin implementing plans and strategies in preparation for the opening of a new church in 2009.
